Students from 11 West Virginia middle schools will be competing in the challenge, an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications.

Nearly 60 competitors are expected from the following West Virginia middle schools:

  • Calvary Baptist Academy
  • Clay County
  • Dupont
  • George Washington
  • Hurricane
  • Poca

Students compete against one another through numerous rounds of multiple-choice questions that test their knowledge of chemistry concepts, important discoveries and chemical safety awareness.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. in room 134 of the University Union.

Sponsored locally and nationally by Dow, Inc., the challenge is an academic competition created by the Chemical Educational Foundation. For more information about the competition, visit the Foundation’s website at www.chemed.org.
