The Statler College will host an Engineering Challenge Camp that focuses on engineering in action for high school students July 20-25.

HIGHLIGHTED ACTIVITIES: 

Tuesday, July 22, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Courtyard of Engineering Science Building (ESB atrium if it rains). Science of Cycling: Bike Design and Build. Led by Jerry Lang, WVU Research, and team. Campers will learn how bicycles are designed, and they’ll build one from the frame up. This will culminate in a bicycle ride through the Arboretum and on the Rail Trail.

Wednesday, July 23, 9:15 a.m., 211 Engineering Science Building. Athletic Joint Deterioration Project. Led by Dakota Kirby. Kirby will lead a discussion about how athletics can affect the human body and joints over time. Campers will then build a model of a working, robotic joint.

Wednesday, July 23, 3:15 p.m., G-84 Engineering Science Building. Prosthetics Project. Led by Robin Hissam, assistant professor, chemical engineering

Thursday, July 24, 9:15 a.m., Rec Center Classroom A. The Science of Yoga. Led by staff from Power Yoga of Morgantown. Campers will learn the science of how Yoga can affect the human body, while practicing poses.

Friday, July 25, 10:00 a.m., G-84 Engineering Science Building/ ESB Courtyard/Rec Center pool. Cardboard Canoe Project. Led by Camp Counselors Rachel Dern, Gabi Hamner, Alex Watson, and Chandler Smith. Campers will design and build canoes out of recycled cardboard, soda bottles, and other materials. They will test their canoes in the Rec Center pool from noon to 1 p.m.
